Lifestyle Design: The Experiences You Want to Have

Many people wonder, what is healthy lifestyle design?  How do I design my lifestyle?  How can I live a more free  and fulfilling life?  In this lifestyle design guide, we are going to look at how you can start designing the life you want to live today instead of society designing it for you.

What is lifestyle design?

Goals are what you want to achieve, whereas lifestyle designs are the experiences that you want to have in life. Goals can be what you want to have (eg. A 2 story house located on the sands of the Virgin Islands) whereas lifestyle design is how you want to live (eg. live free from the grind of 9-5).  Lifestyle design has 3 important aspects we will examine: your daily habits, the people around you, and the workplace.

Life Destiny is about designing and building upon these aspects in stages (through the knowledge and information we learn) and implementing them slowly into your lifestyle design.  By designing and building these areas in your life, in small and incremental steps, will guide you to experience the lifestyle you want to live.

Time:  All You Need to Design Your Ideal Life

Just because many of us do not have ideal situations in life such as enough money, environment, education, or other things you think you need, does not mean you cannot live a happier and more fulfilling lifestyle.  No one lives the perfect lifestyle design and no one ever will.  What you need to understand is you can be happy, healthy, more fulfilled and productive in your current life situation. All you need is time…Time to slowly change your foundation fundamentals of lifestyle design.

By building on time and what you currently have, such as your current skills, will slowly lead you to the lifestyle you want.  However, if you do not take these steps to build upon the foundations then you will continue living the same lifestyle.  Here are a couple quotes that I feel fit into this situation:

Important Aspects To Remodeling Your Lifestyle Design

In order to start living the life experiences that you want, we need to take a look at the main fundamentals of designing our life.

  1. Habits – Habits define who we are and the daily experiences that we have.  Habits are the most powerful tools in developing yourself and success.  We have many basic habits such as brushing our teeth and taking a shower that put us on autopilot.  You spend a majority of your day doing habits that you are not even consciously aware of.  Most of the time these habits are not getting us anywhere to the lifestyle we want to live.By defining and becoming consciously aware of our habits can we then start to remove the unneeded and SLOWLY start implementing the new habits in order to experience the lifestyle we want.  Implement a new habit into your daily routine for and stick with it for at least 30 days for it to become a positive habit toward achieving your lifestyle design.  Studies have been done to show that for a new habit to form it usually takes 30-40 days, however this can vary.  Just have a plan and stick to it.  Imagine yourself after you have developed that habit.
  1. People around you – According to Dr Dacher Keltner, a psychologist at the University of California – Berkeley, the biggest determinate of happiness is the people around you.  Many studies have been done on this and show that if you have genuinely good people around you, either in your family, friends, community, children, romantic partner, then you tend to be happier and experience more positive feelings in life.You need to look at your social circle and determine who is holding you back from living the life you want.  Sever ties with those that bring you down and build healthy relationships with the people that have the ideals and values that you have.  For example, if I want to become an excellent public speaker be able to give effective speeches in front of a large audience, where should I go?  How about the local Toastmasters?  This will surround me with people who are looking to improve their public speaking and will provide experience in public speaking.  I will learn from them and they will learn from me.  This forum is another example..I surround myself with those who are looking to live a lifestyle on their own terms and it rubs off on me.
  1. Workplace – Many of us need to make a living for ourselves and our families so the workplace is a big determinate in your lifestyle design.  If you are not happy at your current job then life will seem harder than it is.Best scenario would be to ditch your current job and find a new career that is in line with your passion and purpose in life. However, if this is not possible at the moment then find ways in which you can design your current workplace lifestyle to better align with the experiences you want to have.  Perhaps you’re not satisfied with the amount of responsibility your boss places on you or feel you can do better.  Perhaps you can get most of your work done from your home.  Consider bringing up a scenario to your boss such as working at home 1 or 2 days a week.   Let your boss know how it benefits both you and him.  Consider a 30 day trial of this option to your boss and if it is working then let it be.  This will allow you to get whatever you need done at home and TIME to spend doing things you want to do.

Now that we have a foundation basis to start designing our life, it is time to take action.  NOW is the time to start designing life on your own terms and not those that society has placed on 99% percent of people.  Be that other 1%.
